The Power of PlanningDec 15, 2020
We all know that planning helps give us a sense of direction and control - two things that are especially important to us as I’m writing this in the year 2020. But it goes so much deeper than that.
Maybe it’s because I used to hate planning and anything remotely associated with routine until I became a parent and business owner. It was then that planning and routine became necessary and I discovered all the benefits of planning. Now, I wish I had adopted the practice of planning sooner.
There are two things I consider to be the real power of planning: integrity and consistency.
Planning helps us live in integrity. We all have an idea of who we are and who we want to be. Without planning activities and steps to make that happen you aren’t living in integrity with who you are or who you want to be.
The side effects of living in integrity are huge. You feel more confident and reassured about yourself for starters.
Live in integrity with what you say you want by planning!
Next is consistency. Consistency is one of the three Cs of personal branding. You’ll remember from a previous post that the three Cs are: clarity, consistency and constancy.
We think something like following up on a pitch or with someone in our network, or posting on LinkedIn should be easy to remember. What is more accurate is that because of all the things on our plates and the number of things wanting our attention, it becomes SO easy to forget! This leads to inconsistency and inconsistency has a negative impact on trust.
So integrity and consistency are the two things that make planning powerful. Not only that, they are requirements of a personal brand. They are why I created The Personal Brand Planner.
A 12 month printable planner that allows you to plan annually, month to month, quarter to quarter and even day to day! There are a lot of moving parts to a strong personal brand - pitching to be a guest on a podcast and posting regularly on social media have big impacts on your career but like all good things they take time. That’s where planning comes in.
A solid plan is your path from where you are now to realizing your goals. So checkout The Personal Brand Planner for all the details on how this tool can build your brand and your career.
